1. What cookies are
A cookie is a small text file a site saves on your computer, tablet or phone. It lets the browser be recognized on later visits and is used, among other things, to keep a session alive or to remember a preference. Similar technologies such as the browser's local storage do much the same job without sending data to the server on every request.
2. The legal framework
Information collected through cookies that can identify an individual is personal information under the Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA). Guidance from the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada treats cookies strictly necessary to deliver the service the user asked for as covered by implied consent, while tracking used for advertising requires meaningful consent, obtained before the tracking begins and with opting out made as easy as opting in. That is why the measurement pixel on this site waits for your choice on the banner.
3. What this site uses
| Name | Type | Purpose | Duration |
|---|---|---|---|
| consenso_cookie | Strictly necessary — local storage | Records that you have seen the short notice, so the banner is not shown on every visit. Contains no identifying data. | Until manually cleared |
| PHPSESSID | Strictly necessary — session cookie | Session identifier generated by the server, needed for the dynamic pages and for form submission to work. | Until the browser is closed |
| t_gid, trc_cookie_storage | Advertising measurement — third party (Taboola.com Ltd.) | Recognizes visits arriving from our advertising campaigns and records the submission of a quote request, so that campaign performance can be measured. Set only after you accept on the banner. | Up to 13 months |
There are no maps, videos or fonts loaded from external domains and no social buttons on this site. Stylesheets, icons, scripts and images are hosted on our own domain. The single exception, and only with your consent: the Taboola/Realize pixel (cdn.taboola.com), which may set the third-party cookies listed above and reports the visit and the quote request to Taboola. You can withdraw consent at any time by clearing the site's data in your browser, and Taboola's own opt-out is available at taboola.com/privacy-policy. Note that the pixel involves processing in the United States, where information can be subject to lawful access by foreign authorities.
4. Server logs
Independently of cookies, the web server records the requests it receives in its log files, with IP address, date, time and the resource requested. This is a technical record needed for security and diagnostics, kept for a maximum of twelve months and not used to reconstruct the behaviour of individual visitors.
5. How to manage cookies and local storage
You can block or delete cookies and site data at any time from your browser settings, normally in the section covering privacy or browsing data. Bear in mind that disabling strictly necessary cookies can break parts of the site, form submission in particular.
To see the notice banner again, clear the consenso_cookie entry from your browser's local storage.
6. Changes to this policy
If we add further analytics or third-party tools, this page will be updated and you will be asked for meaningful consent in advance through the banner, with accepting and declining equally easy.
